Brazilian soccer club Chapecoense played their first match since the tragic accident late in 2016 the took the lives of 71 people. Prior to taking the field, a ceremony was held in which the surviving players received the Copa Sudamericana (which was the cup final the club was headed to play the night of the accident).
Palmeiras scored first but then came the equalizer from Douglas Grolli, (on loan from Brazilian club Cruzeiro). What a sight!
Chape took the lead 2-1 and after a stoppage at the ’71 minute (in tribute to the 71), Palmeiras managed to equalize and that is where the game would end.
Can Chapecoense come back and have another successful season all things considered?!?
Only time will tell.
