Calgary Foothills FC season preview

The snow is melting and that can only mean one thing, outdoor football season is upon us!!!!

Our very own USL PDL Calgary Foothills FC have been hard at work all winter preparing for their sophomore season. Their inaugural year went off without a hitch and they had a very successful campaign, finishing the season with only 2 losses ( 3 wins – 7 draws – 2 losses).

The Northwest Division is no cake walk, with tough sides like Lane United, Kitsap Pumas and MLS u-23 squads Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders all putting up big competition.  Coming into their 2nd season we can expect a side that is more adapted to the pace of the game at this level and ready to battle for 90 minutes.  This years squad will be a younger, more local side. Technical Director and Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon jr will be tapping into his own market and giving his u-18 players a chance to prove themselves.

I was able to spend some time with Tommy Wheeldon Jr this passed saturday during a training/testing session and I must say I am very impressed with the talent level I saw.  You can expect to see pace, grit and a side that will be hard to defend against.

Also stay tuned for more as I will be following the team closely.
